See the small fish that can stop and sink a ship from sailing

Echeneis

As incredible this may sound, there is a small fish called Echeneis naucrates found in the sea and oceans which is capable of slowing down the speed of a ship and bringing it to a halt. Echeneis, also known as, shark sucker or remora, are found in the Western Atlantic, from Nova Scotia, Canada through Bermuda and the Gulf of Mexico to Uruguay. Their presence is also found in the Mediterranean sea, Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean.
Echeneis naucrates have a sucking disc on top of its head which makes it easy to be spotted. A strong vacuum is produced from the sucking disc which enables it to attach itself to its host. It is through this strong vacuum created the specie uses to attach itself to the base of the ship. The pectoral and ventral fins of this specie are dark in colour and with a dark brownish belly. The dorsal and anal fins are black in colour with a pointed tail. It is approximate length is 100cm yet smaller ones are frequently found. It is hard to distinguish between adult males and adult females of Echeneis.

Echeneis naucrates love to swim in groups. Since they are poor swimmers, Echeneis attach themselves to their hosts such like shark, dolphins, turtles etc. from the beginning of their lives. They have a commensal relationship with their host, they obtain their food from the host but the host is not harmed instead benefits greatly from Echeneis.
Echeneis naucrates, also known as Shark sucker or remora gets attached to the bottom of a boat through their powerful sucking disc can sink the boat. The ancient Greeks dreaded Echeneis because they believe it has magical powers. As small as it is, when attached to the bottom of a ship, can stop it from sailing if not removed. Echeneis is capable of doing this through the virtue vested upon it by God.
